Five
Beautiful Color Illustrations by Henry Hutt and
page decorations on every page by Theodore Hapgood
DODD,
MEAD 1905
THE
VOLUME: Beautiful boards
in the style of Margaret Armstrong, but I don't see her name
mentioned here so I assume it is not her design, but that the
credit should go to Theadore Hapgood, who did the page
decorations. The cover does seem to replicate elements in the
page designs.
The
upper edge of the text block is gold gilt, as are the titles on
the upper board and the spine.
THIS
DUSTJACKET: A
NEW FACSIMILE copy
of the very scarce jacket with Henry Hutt's artwork, which sold
with this edition, made from a scan of an original in very good
condition, printed on one sheet of acid-free paper by an
archival inkjet printer (80 yr. inks), and preserved in archival
plastic. (This particular photo shows the dust jacket before it
has been placed inside its plastic cover.)
THE
STORY: The flaps on this dust jacket
are blank, giving no clue to the story line, but I have heard
that it is a tongue-in-cheek look at a budding romance, as seen
through the eyes of the horses of the couple. Quite an idea! The
illustrations suggest that the romance had a rocky beginning,
but those are generally the most fun I think.
Each Dust
Jacket costs $12.00 and comes with a complimentary matching
bookmark and protective cover. (Price is reduced to $10.00 when
three or more djs are ordered.)
