The
Web of the Golden Spider by Frederick
Orin Bartlett dust
jacket illustration, color frontispiece & complimentary
bookmark using artwork by HARRISON
FISHER and
3 additional black and white illustrations by CHARLES RELYEA
SMALL,
MAYNARD & COMPANY 1909,
Apparent First Edition, 354 pages
THE
VOLUME: The book is in
VERY GOOD. condition.
Very clean, bright boards, with bright white lettering and
bright gilt design of Hindu-like statuate over blind-embossed
spider's web. White print on spine has faded a little. Some edge
wear to tips of spine corners and board corners, but little
elsewhere. The interior is very clean. A neat ownership
inscription appears on first endpaper. Tissue-covered
frontispiece by Harrison Fisher in excellent condition, as are
all interior pages. The paper near the rear hinge is cracked,
but holding well. A particularly lovely copy of this book.
THE
DUSTJACKET: A
NEW FACSIMILE copy
of the scarce Harrison Fisher jacket, which sold with
this edition, made from a scan of an original in very good
condition, printed on one sheet of acid-free paper by an
archival inkjet printer (80 yr. inks), and preserved in archival
plastic.
THE
STORY: The flaps on this dust
jacket are blank as issued, but some sources call it an
adventure novel with mystical lost-race elements. Judging from
chapter titles and the illustrations, it looks like a blending
of mystery, fantasy, and horror.
